Welcome to the University of Iowa Postdoctoral Association!

If you are a postdoctoral scholar or fellow at the University of Iowa, you are a member of the UIPDA! Every postdoc with an HR designation of either FP01 or FP02 is a member of the UIPDA immediately upon the start of their training at the University of Iowa, and you are welcome to all UIPDA meetings and events

The University of Iowa Postdoctoral Association was founded in the Spring of 2011 to act as representatives on behalf of the UI postdoctoral community. We serve the needs of all postdoctoral scholars and fellows throughout the sciences, social sciences, and humanities, and we collaborate with the University of Iowa's departments to provide support and training to our postdoctoral community.

The University of Iowa uses the general term “postdoc” to identify temporary, doctoral-level researchers involved in advanced training at the university to prepare for careers in academia and research. The University recognizes two classifications of Postdocs:

  • Postdoctoral Research Scholar (HR appointment code FP01)
  • Postdoctoral Research Fellow (HR appointment code FP02)

Our postdoctoral community needs your leadership and input! We want to hear from you and learn how we can help you be successful. Come to our meetings to discover unique opportunities, find and attend events, engage in interdisciplinary organizations, and share your research. Get involved and help us create a postdoctoral community that truly represents all postdocs.

Mission Statement

  • Provide support for research training and professional development
  • Advocate for constructive changes in the research environment and in policies that affect the lives of Postdocs and their dependents
  • Act as a liaison between University Postdocs and University entities that interact with or impact the postdoctoral community
